Desert Wheatear (photo by Chris T) One on Skomer this morning (spotted by Dave B) - with another two spotted on the East coast of Ireland. A first for Skomer.
Skomer and Skokholm Islands are both National Nature Reserves, managed by the Wildlife Trust of South and West Wales - with much assistance from the "Friends of Skokholm and Skomer".
The islands are home to between a third and half of the world's population of Manx Shearwater.
The islands have a rich cultural heritage thanks to the pioneering research work of R. M. Lockley in the 1930s. Skokholm was the UK's first bird observatory - established in 1933.
Visit www.welshwildlife.org for further information.
Skomer volunteers have set up a Facebook group. It's a great place to catch up with fellow Skomer volunteers, meet new ones, find out who else will be here when you next visit and share your pictures, news and experiences from the island. If you volunteer on the island and are in Facebook, go and join the group now! (Log into Facebook and search for 'Skomer vols')
